At Freedom Bakeries, we recognize the urgency of the situation in Afghanistan and are committed to being part of the solution. Our on-ground bakeries began the year of 2025 serving 1,500 people daily with fresh bread. Through consistent food support, we are helping families regain a sense of dignity and security in the face of hunger.

Today, 24.6 million people, nearly half the population, are suffering from acute food insecurity. Even more alarming, 638,000 people are facing catastrophic levels of hunger, the highest figure recorded anywhere in the world.

In a country of 5.5 million people, nearly half the population survives on less than US $2 a day. This heartbreaking reality means that for many, even securing a simple meal has become a daily challenge.

Out of the 50 million people who lack food security in Bangladesh, less than half have access to food programs. Food insecurity in Bangladesh stems from extreme poverty due to unemployment. Sadly, women and children are most affected by malnutrition and undernutrition.

The majority of the country is starving with 1.6 million people in the country are expected to fall into emergency levels of hunger and 2.2 million children acutely malnourished.

Over 1.6 million people – do not have enough to eat and almost 60% of Gazians are in greater need. Unemployment rate is as high as 25% of the population and 36% of the Palestinians live below the poverty line.

Peru has become the most food-insecure country in South America, according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO. Some 16.6 million people – more than half the population — now find themselves without regular access to enough safe and nutritious food.
